The Safety Pin Project refers to a practice started by Professors in the United States of wearing a safety pin on their shirts to show their diverse students that, unlike in Donald Trump's America, they were safe to be who they were with them. Muslim, gay, trans, immigrant, non-white, anything.
Donald Trump presents us with an interesting opporunity to love. With his anti-Muslim, mysoginistic, and racist rhetoric, he gives us the opportuity to meet these hurtful values with love, and the values that Jesus taught us. In these difficult times, we can remember that we have the power and courage to 'go high' when others 'go low'. A simple and gentle resistance, such as putting a safety pin on our shirts, and loving our neighbours.
